Hope in your hands is a project I started in high school with my mom. Breast cancer became part of my life when my aunt was diagnosed. I then decided to take a photograph to represent breast cancer, so I chose the breast cancer ribbon.
Years later, when I was in college, my aunt had a reoccurrence of breast cancer, so I decided to go further with my project and portray people who have been affected by breast cancer with portraits. Three months after I started the breast cancer portraits my mother found a lump. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and we then uncovered a short time after that breast cancer was carried on by my mothers family from the BRCA mutation so it has affected my family generation after generation.
Hope in your hands is a series of portraits displaying hope and strength. With breast cancer, hope truly lies within your own hands. Having awareness around breast cancer and what to watch for is so important and ensuring exams are done frequently. Take control in your hands and create hope for yourself and loved ones.
